Newport Thursday 7 a side Social Netball - Week 2 Report
In the thrilling second week of Newport Thursday's 7 a side Netball league, all our teams gathered again and showcased their skills and competitive spirit on the court. It was great to welcome some new faces too, more players who have taken the plunge and got themselves back involved with a sport that they haven't played for years, great to see.
The night witnessed a resounding victory by the Hot Shots over the Net Ninja's. The Hot Shots were on fire, displaying an impressive offensive and defensive performance that resulted in a dominating 26-2 victory. The friendly, sporting nature of the contest remain throughout and well done to Ninja's for remaining positive and smiling right to the final whistle.
In stark contrast, the match between Pace Makers and Shooting Stars ended in a tense stalemate with the final score being 11-11. Both teams displayed commendable agility, teamwork, and sharp shooting skills. The improvement in both teams was noticable and despite the closeness of the game, both sides were commended for their fair play.
The standout player of the week from Division 1 was judged to be Sioni Barnes from Pace Makers. Sioni's outstanding performance on the court, coupled with her exceptional leadership qualities, was instrumental in earning her the title of the most valued player this week. Her tenacity and precision of passing were pivotal in securing the draw for Pace Makers against the Shooting Stars.
The evening featured a 3rd match this week with new side WIGHT SHOTS taking part for the 1st time. Thank you to Pace Makers for playing a 2nd game, we look forward to bringing Wight Shots into the league as soon as possible. It's also be great to see a number of sign ups this week so we are edging towards being able to create a 6th team which is brilliant for everyone involved and shows the potential that this league has to grow and grow.
Thank you to Jane and Tori for umpiring our games this week and to Kate for her help in making things run smoothly. We look forward to week 3 next Thursday but for now, have a great weekend and well done to all our players.
