In the opening week of the new season of Newport's Thursday Netball League, Division 1 started with a bang, offering some incredible matches that set the tone for the weeks to come.
Wight Shots outplayed the Hot Shots with a resounding victory of 19-3, showing their dominance right from the start of the season. Debbie Chatfield, Wight Shots' star player, won the Most Valued Player of the week. Chatfield's performance was nothing short of remarkable, contributing significantly to her team's victory and setting a high standard for the rest of the season.
In another high-stakes match, Wingland secured a tight win against Shooting Stars with a five-point lead, finishing at 20-15. Despite the Shooting Stars' best efforts, Wingland's strategic gameplay and exceptional teamwork led to a well-deserved victory.
Meanwhile, Hoop There It Is made a powerful statement by beating Net Ninja's 24-4. This significant margin of victory not only placed Hoop There It Is at the top of the scoring board for Division 1 but also marked the new team as ones to watch out for in the upcoming weeks.
The first week's results have laid a solid foundation for the rest of the season. With the teams giving their best, the competition is high and it's clear that every match in Division 1 is going to be a thrilling encounter. As the season progresses, we look forward to more fun matches and exceptional performances from the players.
